Louis Saha explains how Man Utd can use cup victory over Liverpool as catalyst for further success

With no matches until March 30, Manchester United are now able to relax for a while after their gruelling 4-3 FA Cup quarter-final victory over Liverpool on Sunday.

The Red Devils overcame two separate deficits against their high-flying rivals to earn the victory, which required extra time after the teams were tied after 90 minutes.

The back-and-forth affair saw both sides take leads at different times throughout the match, but Liverpool appeared destined to claim the victory with leads in the 86th and 111th minutes. However, United were able to equaise on both occassions, and Amad Diallo scored just seconds before the extra half-hour was up to give Erik ten Hag's side a famous victory.

It's the kind of win that can propel a team to greater heights, according a former United player Louis Saha. With United still alive in the FA Cup and pushing for a Champions League berth, Saha hopes Sunday's performance will lead to better things.

“We saw the very best of Manchester United on Sunday in terms of spirit, belief and expression of qualities," Saha told Betfred.

"They still had moments in the game where they allowed Liverpool to dominate, but they certainly showed that the quality is there and that they could damage Liverpool at any moment.

“They’ve had to contend with a lot of injuries this season, but this team can cause even more damage when they’ve got all their players back from injury and play with more consistency.

"Manchester United have one of the best defenders in Lisandro Martínez and he’s been injured for most of the season and that’s also a big blow, so all these things haven’t helped.

"Having a set of players that are all focused, they can reproduce Sunday’s performance but more importantly, they need to show that they can do it on a consistent basis.”
