WBC president provides major update on whether Francis Ngannou will keep his top ten ranking
Published: Mar 14, 2024Francis Ngannou will exit the top 10 of the WBC rankings following his brutal two-round loss to Anthony Joshua. Ngannou was empathically stopped by the former two-time world champion and it’s unknown whether he will continue with boxing or make a return to MMA. Last October, Ngannou sent shockwaves through boxing when he dropped Tyson Fury before losing on points to the current WBC titleholder. The Frenchman was rewarded with a lofty ranking by the WBC but that is no longer the case after their president, Mauricio Sulaiman, provided some clarity on the matter. "Yeah, [he will drop] from the top 10 certainly because he was knocked out in two rounds," said Sulaiman when speaking talkSPORT.com. "I do not regret ranking him. He had a sensational outing against the WBC champion, and he has a history behind in mixed martial arts, which is a criterion for the WBC in rankings.” Live on DAZN: Watch William Zepeda vs. Maxi Hughes on March 16
