Mo Salah or Virgil van Dijk? John Barnes predicts which player is likeliest to leave Liverpool

John Barnes believes that Mohamed Salah is more likely to leave Liverpool than Virgil van Dijk.

Both the Egyptian forward and the Dutch central defender have been linked with moves away from Anfield after Jurgen Klopp announced this would be his final season at Anfield.

Salah in particular has been subject of firm interest from the Saudi Pro League, and speaking to Genting Casino, Barnes picked the striker out as the likelier of the two to move on.

He said: “I don’t think Virgil van Dijk will necessarily be thinking about (moving on for a new challenge).

“I don’t think Virgil will be in demand by the world’s biggest clubs because of his age and his position. 

“What better challenge could there be for him than wanting to see his career out at Liverpool and helping the club flourish with a new group of players in a new era? 

“From Mo’s perspective, I think it’s a little bit different. Mo Salah is the only player I think could leave and there will be offers on the table from Saudi Arabia which could be an interesting opportunity for him.

“I don’t think you’ll see any other departures. 

“This is a new, young, exciting Liverpool team with a bright future. Why wouldn’t you want to be part of that as a player?”
