Drew Dober releases statement after controversial knockout
Published: Mar 30, 2025
On Saturday night in Mexico City, Drew Dober suffered a first round TKO loss to Manuel Torres. Immediately after the referee called off the fight there was debate about the stoppage. Many felt the referee didn't step in quickly enough and some online counted 5-10 unanswered strikes before the fight was called off. When Dober came to he was unaware of what had happened and needed to be calmed down. Now, hours after the fights conclusion, the fan favorite took to Twitter to express his thoughts on the moment. "Well, that sucked," he tweeted. "A beautifully timed one two by Manuel Torres. There's not much to go off of other than, unfortunately, stepping in front of the rear hand of a long power puncher. "As much as I love Mexico City, it's given me two of my most embarrassing losses of my career, haha. But the food and people are still the best. I'm happy and healthy and excited to be a stay at home dad for a while." This is the third straight loss for Dober who also suffered a TKO loss to Jean Silva in his last appearance. Torres was asked about the controversy in his post-fight interview to which he replied, “If you look at the replay, watching the referee, like, I’m making a lot of damage to my opponent, but he didn’t stop the fight, so I’m a professional, so I keep doing it. But yeah, of course I feel that my opponent, he was a little down even before the stoppage.”
