William Zepeda and Mikaela Mayer settle rivalries with rematch wins over Tevin Farmer and Sandy Ryan

William Zepeda and Mikaela Mayer both scored second victories over rivals Tevin Farmer and Sandy Ryan to maintain their belts on different bills across a thrilling Saturday night.

The duo, out to respectively defend their WBC interim lightweight title and WBO welterweight title, settled their scores for good as they picked up consecutive points triumphs.

Zepeda, who edged a split decision at Riyadh Season Latino Night last November against Farmer, delivered a more assured performance for a majority decision win in Cancun.

Mayer, whose first bout with Ryan was overshadowed by drama out of the ring, meanwhile returned a unanimous verdict on the scorecards this time to seal the deal in Las Vegas.

Victory lays out a fascinating pathway for both stars, with the Mexican now poised to mount a challenge against WBC title holder Shakur Stevenson for his crown later this year.

Meanwhile, Mayer will seek an undisputed clash against Welsh star Lauren Price, who holds the other three welterweight belts after her victory over Natasha Jonas in March

In Cancun, Zepeda and Farmer both paid tribute to each other, though the latter suggested he was "robbed" by the judges and that this second fight was closer than their first.

"Nothing against Zepeda, he's a fighter [and] probably one of the toughest fighters in the division because of his output," he said. "I have respect for the fighter.

"I have no respect for boxing. I dominated all the last rounds. I can't keep going into camp and not getting the decision and getting robbed. The last fight was closer than this fight."

Zepeda thanked his rival for the second fight, adding: "I knew he was difficult the first time and he was even more difficult this time. I'm very grateful we had 22 rounds."

In Las Vegas, there were little pleasantries between bitter foes Mayer and Ryan, with the former suggesting their rivalry has been definitvely settled by her victories.

"I wanted to give Sandy the rematch because it was a great fight," Mayer said. "I believe a rematch should happen when the fans want it.

"We did that, but I beat Sandy twice. Now, it's time for me to move on and go for undisputed, which is against Lauren Price."
