Carl Froch provides scathing verdict on Anthony Joshua's latest win over Jermaine Franklin

Carl Froch wasted little time assessing the latest performance of Anthony Joshua as the former world super-middleweight champion was left unimpressed.

Joshua made his return to the ring on Saturday night, and he produced a standard display to box his way past Jermaine Franklin rather than revert to the explosive style that helped build his early career momentum.

Joshua was having his first fight since losing consecutive fights against Oleksandr Usyk and it was also the Watford man’s maiden outing with Derrick James in his corner.

The 2012 Olympic champion was in control throughout but despite winning comfortably on the cards, Joshua didn’t do much to have Froch singing his praises.

“In the ring at world title level he’s been there, done the business. And now I don’t know. What motivates him?” said Froch on BBC 5 Live

“We talked about it, he wants the money. I don’t understand why he’s fighting. I just don’t. It’s a dangerous sport. Money can’t be the motivation when you’ve earned over £100m. I've not seen anything in that performance that he wants to be a world champion again.”
