Eddie Hearn gives update on Anthony Joshua return from injury

Anthony Joshua still has over a month until he has fully recovered from an injury, says his promoter Eddie Hearn.

It has been six months since Joshua was knocked out by IBF heavyweight champion Daniel Dubois at Wembley Stadium, and he has been silent when it comes to his next move.

While a return in the first of 2025 seemed logical, an injury has put a halt to Joshua's fight plans this year.

Following the loss to Dubois and then Tyson Fury's second successive loss to unified heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk in December, it looked like the stars had aligned for the showdown which British fight fans have been wanting for years.

However, with Fury announcing his retirement in January, this has poured cold water on the bout, but there are some who expect the former WBC heavyweight champion to make a comeback.

This has then led to claims that Joshua's injury is to make believe in an attempt to wait it out for a Fury comeback and finally make this 'Battle of Britain' contest.

Speaking to The Stomping Ground, Hearn dismissed these claims and instead offered a timeline as to when Joshua is expected back in training.

"No, not at all, we’re not going to just make up an injury. Basically, if we were waiting, we just go ‘we’re not going to fight at the moment’ and we’ll just see what happens," Hearn said.

"He went back to the gym, and he’s not able to punch as he would like to be, and he’s got five weeks left now until he can punch properly.

"We’re not waiting for Tyson Fury, if that opportunity jumps up in the meantime, fantastic, if not we’ll just get fit, get ready and decide who we’re going to fight."
