Nigel Benn WKO Gerald McClellan - 1995
Remembered for the tragic aftermath that saw Gerald McClellan suffer lifechanging injuries, the action before it still remains one of the most brutal fights ever seen inside a British ring and also one of the memorable victories from a British fighter. In the early stages, the American was everything he had made out to be. He looked to punish Nigel Benn at every opportunity. Benn was punched out of the ring. He took severe punishment, but he kept going and he was able to register victory with a tenth-round stoppage. The result, and what happened next, would have a major impact on boxing with safety regulations receiving severe scrutiny. But for everyone who watched it, and for those involved, it would be a night that will never be forgotten.Chris Eubank WTKO Nigel Benn – 1990
The greatest British boxing rivalry of all time and the fight that set up this weekend’s potential blockbuster featuring their sons was a frantic affair watched by millions. The opposite personalities of Chris Eubank and Nigel Benn helped the pair become major celebrities in the early 1990s and fight fans could not wait to see them collide. Eubank was the eventual victor following an action-packed affair that delivered. His dominance was proved when he stopped his great rival in the ninth session.
Nigel Benn WTKO Iran Barkley – 1990
After losing to Michael Watson in 1989, Nigel Benn, humbled by his stoppage defeat, rebuilt his career in America as he took his entertaining style stateside. Receiving opportunities and exposure, Benn was handed the chance to face Iran Barkley, a former world champion who had recently fought Roberto Duran, Michael Nunn, and Thomas Hearns. The contest was set to be a test of Benn’s world level credentials. He did not disappoint as he dropped the New Yorker three times in the opening round to retain his WBO world title.Chris Eubank WTKO Michael Watson – 1991
Another fight marred with serious injury after Michael Watson was defeated by Chris Eubank after outclassing the Brighton man for large periods of their fight. The pair knew each other well after Eubank had won their first meeting earlier in the year, but Watson produced one of the best performances of his career before he was caught late in the penultimate round. Eubank would get the win in the last session, but the injuries suffered by Watson rightly became the focal point as he faced a huge battle, which included 40 days in a coma and multiple operations.
Chris Eubank Jr WPTS James DeGale – 2019
Chris Eubank Jr was eager to prove himself as a serious threat at super-middleweight after falling short against George Groves in 2018. The following year, Eubank Jr would challenge James DeGale, the Olympic gold medallist and former world champion, knowing victory would enhance his standing in the sport. Eubank Jr pressed forward all night and after dropping DeGale twice, he was eventually handed the verdict on the scorecards inside a packed O2 Arena in London.Watch three incredible fight nights in one week only on DAZN
