Eubank Jr vs Benn: Nigel Benn names the Canelo Alvarez rival who had to 'stop sparring' his son

Conor Benn’s preparations for his imminent showdown with Chris Eubank Jr appears to have been the most intense of his career, and his father, Nigel Benn, has revealed who could not handle the pace in sparring.

Benn, moving up in weight, has identified bigger fighters to aid his training and one of those fighters was William Scull.

The reigning IBF champion at super-middleweight also has a big fight coming up as he faces Canelo Alvarez on May 3 , live on DAZN PPV, as is Eubank Jr vs Benn.

The Cuban star is currently unbeaten, and he has impressed on his climb towards the top of the 168lbs division.

Despite getting ready for the threat of Canelo, it appears that Scull has been struggling with Benn, if the latter’s dad is to be believed.

The elder Benn has been present at his son’s training camp and he has seen him inside the ring with several top fighters with Scull also being joined by Denzel Bently.

Benn Sr has been impressed with what he has seen from Conor when in with Scull and he has now revealed that the leading super-middleweight could not cope with Benn's artillery.

"He walked in the gym, but I didn't know who he was. It was this guy called William Scull, and he was sparring at around round four or five. He said, 'Oh no, I need a minute,’” said Benn when speaking to IFLTV.

"Conor only does for 40 seconds. Then afterwards, about round four and five, you can ask everybody else. He was sitting down on the ring cushion on the ring rope because he was kind of tired.

"Come to round five six and seven. He started feeling the pace, then around eight Conor put it on him. What did he do? Stop sparring. William Scull.

"These all like light heavyweights. They weren't at weight. But I'm telling you the truth. Conor put it on him, he couldn't even come out for the eighth round."
