Former Premier League striker says it's a shame England will miss key player this summer

Alan Smith has shared his disappointment that England won't be able to call on Arsenal's Ben White ahead of this summer's Euros.

The Gunners full-back has been one of the stars of the season and scored twice in the club's 5-0 thrashing of Chelsea on Tuesday. However, he has ruled himself out of contention for the national team.

Ahead of last month's friendlies, Gareth Southgate revealed he had spoken to White, and the defender had asked not to be selected for the Three Lions, which Smith told Crypto Casino is a big loss.

“It's a great shame that Ben White doesn’t want to be selected for England,” he said.

“Gareth Southgate is not willing to tell people because it’s probably a personal matter, but he’s in brilliant form and would be an asset to any side. He was fantastic against Wolves on the weekend and again against Chelsea on Tuesday to get those goals, but if he doesn’t want to play for England then he doesn’t want to play!

“It’s quite an unusual situation, but he’s certainly doing the business for Arsenal and they’re probably happy that he can solely focus on his club career from now on.”
