Mauricio Lara sends brutal warning to Leigh Wood ahead of world title clash

Mauricio Lara is in an extremely confident mood as he prepares for his world title crack against Leigh Wood on February 18.

The pair were originally set to face off last year but an injury to the champion meant the fight was postponed. The delay to the contest has done nothing to thwart Lara’s lofty ambitions.

Since defeating Josh Warrington in a sensational upset at the beginning of 2021, Lara has been determined to become world champion.

Recognised as one of the world’s best featherweights due to his demolition of Warrington, Lara is ready for further honours and for him, that starts on February 18 when he heads to Nottingham to face Wood.

“I am not going to expect anything, I am going all in for everything from the first round,” said Lara when speaking with Boxing Scene.

“Wood punches harder than Warrington, but on February 18 we will see who has the biggest punch. We have a plan A and a plan B because we don't want to be surprised. We are well prepared,” Lara assured.

Wood is a great fighter, but he is very talkative. Saying these things to me is his worst mistake, he will even need therapy to recover, I will be the worst nightmare of his life.”
