Former Premier League striker urges England to keep with key man for Euros final

England put on their best performance of the tournament last night, as they progressed to the Euro 2024 final thanks to a last-gasp 2-1 win over the Netherlands.

Ollie Watkins netted an injury-time winner for the Three Lions to set up a date with Spain in Berlin, and now questions will be raised on Gareth Southgate's starting eleven for the clash in Berlin.

After Watkins' heroics, there will be some calls for the Aston Villa man to start the final, but speaking to Online Poker, former England striker Teddy Sheringham says Southgate must stick with Harry Kane.

“Harry Kane should 100% still start on Sunday against Spain instead of Ollie Watkins,” he said.

“I don’t think he’s looked as mobile as he has done in the past couple of years, but for me, he still leads the line well and you can tell some of the other players look up to him. If he’s offered a chance in front of goal, he’ll take it.

“He hasn’t had the best tournament by his standards, but if he scores one in the final then he’ll likely end up with the Golden Boot – so things can’t be that bad!”
