Former Everton striker says club need to prioritise attacking midfielder after Amadou Onana departure

Andre Onana's transfer from Everton to Aston Villa has left a big hole to fill for the Toffees, but Louis Saha doesn't think the club should look to the transfer market to do so.

Instead, the former Everton striker believes his former club should prioritise finding new talent further up the pitch.

Speaking to Paddy Power, Saha explained that while Onana's departure is a "big loss," Everton already have adequate cover for the Belgian and should focus their transfer efforts on a player that can create goals.

“Amadou Onana moving to Aston Villa is a big loss for Everton," Saha said. "After losing such a big player in the squad, it’s hard to think of a direct replacement straight away, especially when you’ll need someone with the right character and is good going forward.

“Everton have good back up to come in as a replacement for Onana in Idrissa Gueye and André Gomes, but their priority needs to be to bring in an attacking centre midfielder, who can play a pivotal role when going forward and create chances for the strikers.”
