Bukayo Saka explains disappointing Arsenal draw against Liverpool
Published: Oct 27, 2024For Bukayo Saka, Arsenal's inability to hold two leads in their 2-2 draw with visiting Liverpool came down to a lack of consistency. The Gunners twice went ahead in Sunday's match, first through Saka himself in the ninth minute and again just before the end of the first half when Mikel Merino scored his first goal in an Arsenal shirt. However, the visiting Reds found two equalisers, with Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah pulling their side level on either side of halftime. Saka, whose first-half goal was his 50th in the Premier League, said after the match that Arsenal were the better team in the first 45 minutes and were second-best in the second half. "Disappointed, credit to Liverpool," he told Sky Sports. "We feel like we didn't play the full 90 minutes. "First half we showed our qualities, gave them nothing and they scored from a set piece. I can't think of another chance they had. Second half we weren't at our best. "They had more momentum, won more duels, kept more possession and naturally momentum goes to them and we have to defend."
