Take a look at the customised Jesse 'Bam' Rodriguez gloves which wowed fans against Cristian Gonzalez

Jesse ‘Bam’ Rodriguez scored an impressive victory over Cristian Gonzalez on Saturday night, but the night could go down as memorable for more than just a title win.

Rodriguez added the WBO flyweight championship to his resume and scored the victory via a unanimous 118-110, 117-111, 116-112 decision against his Mexican rival.

After the victory, the new champion revealed that he had suffered a broken jaw in the eighth round but continued to face down his rival throughout the championship rounds. 

That left him with another win, and another belt, with his doughty display, but there was also something a little more fun to note.

During the contest, Rodriguez honoured his nickname, ‘Bam’, with some custom-made boxing gloves emblazoned with his moniker. 

Whether Gonzalez was able to catch a glimpse of the writing during the match-up is another matter, given the speed with which he delivered his flurry of punches, live on DAZN.

Up next for Rodriguez could be the chance to start unifying the division, as he called for a scrap with another unbeaten fighter at flyweight, Britain’s Sunny Edwards.
