UFC 309: Jon Jones stops Stipe Miocic with third-round TKO
Published: Nov 17, 2024The UFC hosted a massive pay-per-view event from Madison Square Garden on Saturday night. The main event was for the heavyweight UFC title, with the added bonus of legacy on the line. Jon Jones, the reigning champion, took on the former champ Stipe Miocic in a highly controversial matchup for UFC gold. Jones should have been fighting Tom Aspinall. the interim champion but he picked Miocic and a legacy fight instead of the rightful next contender. It proved fruitful for Jones who earned a third-round TKO finish of Miocic after a brutal spinning back kick dropped Miocic. With this win, Jones retains his heavyweight title and should face Aspinall next. He's been vocal about not wanting to fight Aspinall due to disliking him, but UFC president Dana White says that will be the next fight for Jones, should he continue to fight.
